IT Consulting & Project Management

Infrastructure projects rarely fail on technology; they fail on estimates, coordination and handover. We have led sub-projects and projects in outsourcing environments: an operating system upgrade across 19 servers, two data center moves, the offshoring of DBA functions, Oracle upgrades of entire landscapes. Certified in ITIL and as a Professional Scrum Master.
Typical tasks
- Project and sub-project management for upgrades, platform migrations, data center moves and production launches
- Effort and hardware estimates as the basis for tenders and contracts
- SLA and contract negotiations between client and service provider
- Coordination of offshore parts
- Handovers to offshoring partners
- Operating processes according to ITIL
- Concepts for high availability, failover clusters, backup and recovery
- Deputizing for the overall project manager
From practice
On behalf of EDS, from 2009 HP Enterprise Services, Vodafone’s outsourcing provider, we led the upgrade of the billing system’s development and test infrastructure from Solaris 8 to 10 between 12/2008 and 05/2010: estimated 19 Sun servers, 1.2 TB RAM and 35 TB disk, calculated around 120 person-months, coordinated the offshore parts and deputized for the overall project manager.
In 2019, on behalf of Datagroup FIS, NRW.BANK’s IT service provider, we were responsible for the database work package in the bank’s move from another operator to Datagroup’s data center: 7 databases with several terabytes, no live migration, weekend windows, dump and load combined with an upgrade of the database versions.
Training and knowledge transfer within projects
We want your team to run the system without us after the project. That is why we are happy to document what we build in wikis (Confluence or others). We train the people who run it: as a workshop, as pairing during the project and as operations documentation that actually gets read. Oracle DBA workshops, SQL and PL/SQL training, Linux and Ansible introductions and Kubernetes basics for operations teams are part of it. We do not offer a standalone seminar program.
